Minors: Willy Garcia homers twice, Wyatt Mathisen hits first professional home run

The Bradenton Marauders were the only affiliate without a game on Monday. It was a scheduled day off.

Transactions: Kyle McPherson and Justin Wilson were each promoted from AAA Indianapolis to the majors to help out the Pirates' depleted bullpen. They both made their Major League debut. McPherson pitched two scoreless innings. Wilson pitched one and struck out the side. To make room on the roster, Jordy Mercer was placed on the paternity list and Juan Cruz was designated for assignment.

AAA - Indianapolis Indians (77-53) - Beat the Syracuse Chiefs 2-0. Kris Johnson (5-2, 4.53 ERA) pitched 5 1-3 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out one. Bryan Morris struck out four in 2 2-3 scoreless innings. Tim Wood struck out two in one inning of work to pick up his 19th save. Brock Holt (.423) went 3 for 5 with two doubles. Jeff Clement (.283) went 2 for 4 with a solo home run, his 16th of the year.

AA - Altoona Curve (60-67) - Beat the Trenton Thunder 6-2. Jeff Inman started and pitched four innings of one hit ball. Tim Alderson allowed two runs on three hits in two innings. Erik Turgeon (2-3, 6.84 ERA) got the win after pitching two scoreless innings. Victor Black struck out two in one scoreless inning. Ramon Cabrera (.265) went 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Andrew Lambo (.261) went 2 for 5. Oscar Tejeda (.254) went 1 for 3 and drove in a run. Quincy Latimore (.244) went 1 for 4 and drove in two runs. Jarek Cunningham (.224) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run.

Low A - West Virginia Power (55-72) - Beat the Charleston RiverDogs 9-2. Mike Jefferson (4-7, 4.97 ERA) pitched six innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out four. Emmanuel De Leon gave up an unearned run on three hits in two innings. Robert Kilcrease pitched one scoreless inning. Alen Hanson (.312) went 1 for 5 and drove in two runs. Carlos Aponte (.248) went 3 for 4 with a double. Dan Gamache (.289) went 1 for 5 with a double and an RBI. Eric Avila (.291) went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Willy Garcia (.250) went 3 for 4 with two home runs, a solo shot and a three run shot, for his 17th and 18th of the season.

SS - State College Spikes (29-31) - Lost to the Williamsport Crosscutters 6-4. Jason Creasy pitched 4 1-3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out one. Josh Smith pitched a clean 2-3 of an inning. Ryan Hafner (0-2, 6.43 ERA) took the loss after allowing three runs on three hits in 1 2-3 innings. Kevin Kleis gave up a run on one hit in one inning. Tyler Gaffney (.297) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. D.J. Crumlich (.279) went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBI. Yhonathan Barrios (.211) went 2 for 3. Jared Lakind (.162) went 2 for 4.

GCL - GCL Pirates (34-21) - Beat the GCL Brave 3-2. Axel Diaz pitched four innings of one hit ball with three strikeouts. Andy Otamendi gave up two runs on three hits in two innings. Isaac Sanchez (3-1, 3.00 ERA) got the win after pitching three scoreless innings. Max Moroff (.339) went 2 for 3. Wyatt Mathisen (.310) went 1 for 3 with a solo home run, his first of the year. Eric Wood (.297) went 1 for 4 with a solo home run, his fourth of the year. Harold Ramirez (.265) went 2 for 4 with a double. Edwin Espinal (.239) went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
