Minors: Phil Irwin strikes out nine, Eric Avila remains red hot

Transactions: Juan Cruz cleared waivers and refused to report to AAA Indianapolis. He was released.

AAA - Indianapolis Indians (80-53) - Beat the Louisville Bats 6-1 to clinch the IL West pennant. Phil Irwin (1-0, 2.70 ERA) pitched six innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out nine. Logan Kensing and Tim Wood each pitched a scoreless inning. Justin Wilson also pitched a scoreless inning in his first appearance from the bullpen, his Major League debut not withstanding. Chase d'Arnaud (.237) went 2 for 3 with a solo home run, his fifth of the year. Matt Hague (.287) went 2 for 4 and drove in a run. Tony Sanchez (.222) went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBI.

AA - Altoona Curve (63-67) - Beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 2-1. Tyler Waldron pitched 5 2-3 innings, allowing one run on six hits and striking out five. Mike Colla (5-6, 3.86 ERA) got the win after pitching 2 1-3 scoreless innings. Victor Black struck out two in a scoreless inning to pick up his ninth save. Ramon Cabrera (.271) went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Oscar Tejeda (.258) went 2 for 4. Stefan Welch (.277) went 1 for 3 and drove in a run. Quincy Latimore (.256) went 2 for 2 with a double and two walks.


High A - Bradenton Marauders (58-70) - Lost to the Fort Myers Miracle 7-3. Eliecer Navarro (5-8, 3.50 ERA) pitched four innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out four. Matt Benedict allowed two runs on four hits in four innings of relief. Andy Vasquez (.248) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. Kirk Singer (.230) went 3 for 4. Carlos Mesa (.222) went 2 for 4. Benji Gonzalez (.263) went 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI.

Low A - West Virginia Power (56-74) - Lost to the Hickory Crawdads 4-3. Zack Von Rosenberg (4-6, 4.90 ERA) pitched five innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on seven hits and striking out two. Joan Montero struck out three in three scoreless innings. Pat Ludwig also tossed a scoreless frame. Taylor Lewis (.243) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. Eric Avila (.301) went 2 for 4 with a two run home run, his tenth of the year. Avila is hitting .395 with six of his home runs in his past ten games. Elias Diaz (.209) went 2 for 3 with a double.

SS - State College Spikes (30-33) - Lost to the Auburn Doubledays 6-3. Adrian Sampson pitched 4 1-3 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out four. Kevin Kleis allowed a run without surrendering a hit in two innings of work. Thomas Harlan (2-6, 5.12 ERA) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in just 1-3 of an inning. Ryan Hafner struck out two in 1 1-3 scoreless innings. Walker Gourley (.254) went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Jacob Stallings (.251) went 1 for 4 and drove in a run. Jesus Vasquez (.241) went 2 for 4 with a solo home run, his fifth of the year. Samuel Gonzalez (.231) and Chris Diaz (.204) each went 2 for 4.

GCL - GCL Pirates (36-22) - Swept a doubleheader with the GCL Phillies. Game One was a continuation of a suspended game from yesterday and the Pirates ended up winning that contest 6-0. Jonathan Sandfort pitched two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Cesar Lopez (3-2, 4.19 ERA) got the win after striking out five in five one hit innings. Martires Cadet pitched two scoreless innings. Dilson Herrera (.284) went 2 for 5 with two doubles. Max Moroff (.338) went 2 for 3 and drove in a run. Harold Ramirez (.268) went 2 for 5. Luis Urena (.200) went 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Elvis Escobar (.280) went 1 for 4 with a two run home run, his second of the year. The Pirates won Game Two by a score of 4-2. Dovydas Neverauskas pitched 4 2-3 innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out four. Bryton Trepagnier (4-1, 3.21 ERA) got the win after allowing a run on three hits and striking out three in 2 1-3 innings. Jin-De Jhang (.306) went 1 for 3 with a triple and three RBI. Ramirez went 1 for 3 and drove in a run. Edwin Espinal (.252) went 2 for 3.
